Lady DJ Tania was born on the Caribbean island of Curaçao on October 13th, 1977. The exposure to all the different rhythms from the Antilles comes naturally if you are born in this part of the world. For this reason it is not strange that music played a very important role in her life from a very early stage. After graduating from secondary school in Curaçao, Tania decided to move to the Netherlands to study law at Tilburg University in 1997. Student life not only means study, but also enjoying your time at university to a maximum. What better way to do this than to indulge in one of your favourite pastimes? In Tilburg, Salsa Dance Company Salsipuedes is one of the places where you can learn and dance salsa. So Tania decided to join them. It did not take long before Salsipuedes noticed her knowledge of Caribbean music and asked her to help them with the selection and the playing of music during their parties. All this started in February 2000. From there on, her fame has been increasing steadily. Tania has played at all major events in The Netherlands and she is also a regular at many of the most important salsa locations including La Pachanga (Amsterdam),
DMW {Rotterdam}, Speakers (Delft), Winkel van Sinkel (Utrecht). For the Solero Carnival in Rotterdam she also acts as the resident DJ. In 2001 she was also one of the DJ's at the Caribbean Festival in Hoogstraten, the biggest Caribbean festival in the Benelux. Unfortunately, in March 2002, her mother fell sick. Tania decided to take some time off to take care of her mother. Emma Cijntje, her soul and inspiration died in April of 2002. It was the music that helped her cope with this big loss. One of the main challenges for Tania has been the opportunity given to her to play on her native island of Curaçao. It was a task well accomplished with great reviews on her performance. December 2002 marked the birth of the Dynamic 2. This is the name given to a project with DJ Daiquiri, Jaap Pronk. Two top DJ's combining their knowledge of music together on one stage. The explosion of rhythm linked with these 2 extraordinary professionals is something not to be missed. |
